Amberley Silk (AS): First of all, happy birthday for yesterday, how did you spend the day celebrating?

Josh Leslie-Smith (JLS): Thank you! I saw a few friends and family and then we had training in the evening. Nothing too exciting but I had a great day!

AS: How did it feel to make your full debut for Weymouth against Woking?

JLS: It was a mixed feeling overall, obviously we weren’t happy with the result or the performance, but on a personal note, I was really pleased. Jumping up two leagues from last year with Poole, has been demanding, but all the lads have made the transition easier and I feel as though I’ve really settled into the club.

AS: You’ve obviously impressed as you have made the starting 11 for consecutive games now, what has it felt like to come in and play for a team like Weymouth, competing at the highest level of non-league football?

JLS: Obviously, football is based ultimately on results, so it’s been frustrating recently, but we know the quality we have, and we all know we have enough to compete in this league. But playing for Weymouth has been great so far, I’ve loved the challenge and being in a new league, it’s just a shame it’s in such weird times, so I haven’t experienced all of the fans being there to support yet! I feel like I’ve adapted quickly and feel comfortable playing at this level, hopefully I can continue to get minutes and progress further as a player.

AS: As you’ve said, it’s been a bit of a frustrating start so far, how are you and the team staying motivated?

JLS: Our performance in the first half on Tuesday was a lot better, we moved the ball a lot quicker and played how we know we can. So, I think that will give us confidence going into tomorrow’s game. We have to be brave and stick to what we know we’re good at! Things can change very quickly in football, a couple of good performances can result in things looking very different, in a short space of time.

AS: And what are the goals for today’s game?

JLS: Definitely three points and a good performance all round, meaning we’ll be full of confidence going into the two games next week!

AS: Thank you, and good luck today!
