WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock admitted he is “absolutely delighted” with a 2-1 victory over Bromley in a game he felt was bookended by contrasting levels of performance.
Stock’s Terras are beginning to build up a head of steam in the Vanarama National League, this being their third triumph in five games and one lifting them above King’s Lynn to 20th place.
Loanee striker Andy Dallas set Weymouth on their way to victory by earning and scoring a penalty in the third minute before touching home four minutes later.
After a nightmare start, Bromley blossomed and cut the deficit when Joe Kizzi volleyed home Chris Bush’s long throw.
In a chaotic second half, Bush was dismissed after picking up two needless bookings and Bromley went down to nine men when Charlie Wakefield pushed Brennan Camp in the throat.
Weymouth’s Jordan Ngalo also twice saw yellow – the second seemingly harsh as the midfielder appeared to win the ball.
In the dying stages, amid persistent Bromley pressure, Weymouth scrambled to clear their lines and held on.
In the end, it was a victory Weymouth might not have enjoyed had this game been earlier in the season – a measure of the Terras’ improvement in recent games.
“Absolutely delighted with the result,” Stock said post-match.
“The first 30 minutes is probably up there with the best we’ve played and the last 30 probably the worst.
“We’re in a situation where points are crucial. The lads are buzzing in the changing room and that was the most important factor.
“We started very well. I thought our interplay and (Joan) Luque as a 10 was very good. He picked pockets of space and assisted with Andy’s goal.
“Our general play, our full-backs getting high, everything I want our team to have, was evident in the first 30 minutes.
“I felt that when they went down to 10 men we took our foot off the gas.
“Sometimes you have to consider how (the players) might be feeling. They’ve suffered defeats and being that little bit braver on the ball might help with confidence going forward.
“We needed to win and we’ve beaten a very good Bromley side.”
Commenting on long-throw specialist Bush’s dismissal, Stock said: “The sending off for Bush was a changing point in the game.
“We were holding on at one point.
“We dealt very well with the ball coming into the box, we just need to be cleverer in terms of how we dictate the game.
“Not giving away fouls, cheap throw-ins when we know a Bromley side will put it in the box and really test our character.”
He added: “I’m surprised Bush didn’t get sent off the first time. He’s walking a tightrope, and the second one he’s late in the challenge.
“For me, it’s two yellow cards. The lad who pushed Brennan in the face, you just can’t do it nowadays.
“I’m sure he’ll be thinking in the changing room that you shouldn’t be doing something like that.
“All credit to Bromley. Even though they lost two men, they stuck two up front, caused us a problem.
“When we’re looking to try and see out a game, they put us under a lot of pressure. We were clinging on at times, but delighted to get over the line.”
