Preview: Ted Slocombe

The Terras travel East to face current National League leaders Dagenham and Redbridge in what is set to be a fascinating night under the lights on Tuesday evening at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

THE TERRAS

Brian Stock’s side come into this game in strong form, with two wins and a draw in their previous three games, including Saturday’s impressive performance which ended in a 1-1 draw with Notts County. The Terras showed their ability to create many chances just like the previous couple of games and were unlucky not to potentially grab a winner. Andy Robinson was the goalscorer with his strike from outside the area which gave Weymouth a well-deserved point. Skipper Josh McQuoid missed Saturday’s game due to illness (not COVID-19 related) and will be assessed ahead of Tuesday night as to whether he is well enough to play any part. Weymouth currently sit 9th in the league table with 7 points from the opening 5 games.

Player To Watch: Omar Mussa

Mussa was named Man Of The Match against Notts County for his exceptional performance in the midfield for The Terras. His influence on the match was second to none, with Omar able to intercept play, win tackles and create opportunities going forward. His attributes were well missed when he was forced off against Solihull Moors with a knock, but a welcome instant return to the starting XI on Saturday, where he demonstrated his quality. And against top opposition, his work-rate in the middle of the park may be crucial once again.

THE DAGGERS

Daryl McMahon’s Daggers side are unbeaten in their opening five league matches and sit top of the National League with 13 points. They also are the top scorers in the league with 13 goals demonstrating their threat going forward. Notable wins include an opening day 3-1 away victory against Stockport followed by a 4-2 home victory against Bromley. The Daggers’ previous game was on Saturday where they faced King’s Lynn Town which ended in a 2-1 victory to maintain their top spot in the league on goal difference with Boreham Wood 2 goals behind.

Player To Watch: Josh Walker

Since arriving from fellow National League side Barnet in the summer, Josh Walker has chipped in with 4 goals in Dag & Red’s opening 5 games. This lightning start to the season for the 23 year-old may cause The Terras a few problems. Walker isn’t the only one to chip in with goals as Dagenham have managed to net 13 times so far, so The Terras defence will be put to the test on Tuesday night against this high scoring attacking side.

Head to Head:

The Terras failed to beat The Daggers last season with a 3-2 loss at home in December 2020, followed by a 1-1 draw away in March.

Final word:

A tough test awaits The Terras on Tuesday at the Chigwell Construction Stadium however Brian Stock’s side should come into the game with little fear given recent performances. Three games unbeaten in a row will give Weymouth a lift to try and bring points back to the south coast and disrupt Dagenham’s strong start to the league campaign.
