Match Preview: Barnet (A) – Saturday 25th September 2021 – 15:00

By Ted Slocombe

Just the one defeat in the last five games for The Terras demonstrates a continued solid start to the season for Brian Stock’s men as they face Barnet at The Hive London on Saturday.

THE TERRAS

The Terras come into the game off the back of last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic at the Bob Lucas Stadium. A tough game overall for Weymouth meant that the team could not find that winning goal and had to settle for a point. Josh McQuoid was on the scoresheet following a good move by Weymouth to get an equaliser in that game, but the eventual draw means that Saturday’s game against Barnet presents a good opportunity to grab three points to keep Weymouth’s good start to the season going. Notably, Josh Leslie-Smith (bruised knee) and Sean Shields (illness) missed last weekend’s game, but Stock believes that both are likely to be in contention for Saturday.

Weymouth currently sit 10th in the National League with 8 points from 7 games.

Player To Watch: Cameron Murray

Stock praised Cameron Murray for his performance on Saturday who has had a good spell in the team recently in midfield in his ability to create play. Murray was particularly influential on Saturday alongside Andy Robinson and Omar Mussa who Stock said “bounced off one another”. With a goal to his name already this season, Cam Murray will be hoping to add to his goal and continue to create dangerous chances for The Terras.

THE BEES

Barnet have had a tough start to the season which has replicated the disappointing finishes to the last couple of seasons. Barnet are without a win in their opening seven games which resulted in Barnet’s hierarchy sacking manager Harry Kewell this week. Dean Brennan takes temporary charge of Barnet ahead of The Terras’ clash with The Bees. Barnet have picked up two draws this season against Solihull Moors and Eastleigh, but with the departure of Kewell, Barnet will be wanting to start fresh for this season and get their season truly underway on Saturday at The Hive London.

Barnet currently sit 22nd in the National League table with 2 points from 7 games.

Player To Watch: Rob Hall

The Bees have made a new signing to their front line this week with the arrival of seasoned Football League player Rob Hall. Having played in all four of England’s top divisions, Hall will be looking to get his goal and assist tallies up and running with The Bees as Barnet look to turn their recent fortunes around and pick up three points on Saturday.

Head To Head

Weymouth have failed to defeat Barnet in their previous three meetings including a 2-1 defeat in the FA Trophy in December 2019. Last season’s National League meetings ended with a 1-0 win for The Bees at The Hive London in October 2020, followed by a 2-0 defeat at The Bob Lucas Stadium in May 2021.

Final word

The Terras will be aware of the challenge that will face them at The Hive London following last week’s tough fixture against Dover Athletic. However, there is plenty to be optimistic about considering the strong start to the season that Brian Stock’s side have achieved. But without a win in their previous three, Weymouth will be eyeing up Saturday’s fixture as the opportunity to get back to winning ways in the league.
