Match Preview: Aldershot Town v Weymouth – Tuesday 26th October 2021 – 19:45

By Ted Slocombe

A quick turnaround from Saturday’s home draw with Wealdstone as The Terras head east to face Aldershot Town in the Vanarama National League.

THE TERRAS

Ben Thomson scored his first goal of the season for the Terras on Saturday as Weymouth were held to a 1-1 draw with Wealdstone. Brian Stock said he was pleased with the players’ attitude and performance due to the number of minutes that the team has played over the last week. The gaffer commented on the fact that tiredness had played a part. Stock said post Wealdstone: “Some of the lads have played over 200 minutes in the space of four days…the pleasing thing for me was the last 15-20 minutes we picked ourselves up and had a bit of energy”.

Looking forward to the game against Aldershot, Stock mentioned how “one or two players will need a bit of TLC but we go into Tuesday with almost a fully fit squad given the squad depth and the players that can play”. Therefore, the Terras will be fully confident that they can dust themselves off and continue to build themselves back up and pick up three points at Aldershot tonight following some recent good performances.

Player To Watch: Ben Thomson

It was another brilliant performance from Ben Thomson on Saturday, his hard work and attitude leading up to Saturday was rewarded with his first goal of the season. A ferocious and menacing individual going forward in the last couple of fixtures, Thommo will certainly be looking to be in amongst the goals once again, as the Terras search for three points to take back to Dorset this evening.

TERRAS 1-2 STOCKPORT COUNTY

Weymouth currently sit 19th in the National League table with 9 points.

THE SHOTS

Aldershot Town, managed by former Terras manager Mark Molesley, have picked up two victories from their opening 11 games. Victories for The Shots came away against Dover Athletic with a 2-1 win and also a 3-2 away win over Southend United. Aldershot’s home form doesn’t make for spectacular reading with no wins any of their home games so far this season, which could present an opportunity for the Terras to take full advantage and grab the three points. However, Aldershot have played seven of the current top ten teams in the league in the table, with nearly all of those games separated by just one goal. This could help The Shots this evening as they will have played top opposition and have been very much in the game against those teams and will fancy their chances against The Terras.

Player To Watch: Corie Andrews

On loan from AFC Wimbledon, Corie Andrews has begun his spell at Aldershot in very good form with 5 goals in the opening 10 games. Corie scored two goals against Notts County and Wealdstone with another goal scored against Yeovil. He will be the man that The Shots will look for to break down the Terras back line as they try and pick up their first home win of the season.

HEAD TO HEAD

Last season saw both sides defeat each other away from home. In January, Weymouth beat Aldershot 2-0 with a double from loanee Andy Dallas. Aldershot then defeated The Terras 3-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium in April.

FINAL WORD

Tonight presents another opportunity to pick up points for The Terras in the league this season. With plenty of players available following good performances, Brian Stock will be contented with the ability to choose from a variety of players in his squad, with the aim of returning to the south coast with all three points.
