We’re delighted to announce the loan signing of Portsmouth striker Dan Gifford.

18 year-old Dan Gifford has excelled in the youth setups at fellow south coast side Portsmouth in recent years and will look to bolster the Terras’ attack.

Gifford featured in our pre-season fixture against Dorchester, where he came on and scored the only goal in the game. Since then, he’s been amongst the training group and now joins the matchday squad ahead of tonight’s league fixture against Worthing. Gifford spent time last season on loan at Bognor Regis, for a month, joining up with the squad between December 2021 and January 2022. As well as featuring for Weymouth in pre-season, Dan also featured and scored for Portsmouth in their pre-season friendly against National League Barnet.

Gifford was named in ‘The 11’ by League Football Education in November 2021, which is an award, handed to 33 apprentices each season, “based on academic and football progress, as well as participation in external initiatives.”

David Oldfield: Dan Gifford joins us from Portsmouth FC this evening, to complement the squad. Dan is a hard working, promising young forward who has showed he is ready to compete at this level. Once again we are looking forward to working with a good young player from Portsmouth FC. Welcome Dan!

Everybody at Weymouth Football Club would like to welcome Dan to the club and wish him every success in a Terras shirt.
