Preview: Slough Town (A) – Saturday 22nd October – 15:00

Manager Bobby Wilkinson gave his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s match

On preparations: “Training has gone well this week, everyone is in positive spirits and we look forward to the challenge that’s ahead of us tomorrow”

On what’s been done to try turn cup form into league form: “It’s all about consistency, you can see it on the pitch we play really good football. It’s fantastic that we’ve managed to win three cup matches, but it’s vital we take it into the league. We need to wear the badge with pride, let Slough know that we’re here and we mean business tomorrow.”

On what he expects from Slough: “Slough have been a good side for a few years now, they’re consistent in league position and performance. We go there as underdogs, but we have no issue with that. I have a lot of respect for them for the way they compete, we’ve done our homework and we’re well prepared for this game. Nothing changes week-on-week, we have to cross that white line, believe in ourselves and let’s climb up this table!”

On squad news: “Squad is in strong shape for tomorrow, it’s starting to fall into place. We’ve had a look at a few players over the last week, but nothing imminent on any new arrivals into the squad. We are always working hard behind the scenes to try and improve the squad.”

On Luke Nippard: “Luke has had a scan, there is a lump on his leg which needs to clear before he gets back to full fitness and back into the squad. We hope he’s back in the next two weeks.”

On whether we can gather pace with some good results: “Let’s not kid ourselves, we haven’t been consistent at all. We win 3-0 against Welling United with some excellent performances, then go and not turn up and get hammered at Eastbourne. It’s important we get a great result tomorrow and keep this momentum going. There is a great team spirit at the moment, with good attitude to train hard and prepare well. We will need to turn up tomorrow with full confidence.”

@TerraStatman’s Facts of the Match

Just the 11 games against Slough Town in our records and all in the last nine seasons with a healthy W5 D2 L4 tally. We are enjoying a four game unbeaten run against The Rebels including our last encounter, a pre-season friendly at their Arbour Park ground in 2020. Andreas Robinson scored a brace that day with Cody Cooke and Jake McCarthy adding crucial goals in a 4-2 win.

Our last competitive fixtures were in our 2019-20 Conference South promotion campaign with an away 1-1 draw in Berkshire followed up by a 2-0 home win. We didn’t always have it our own way against “The Office” based outfit as we once had a run of six games when we failed to score in all but one! This game will mark our second in a row playing on an artificial pitch following the heroic efforts at Havant & Waterlooville last weekend. We have an excellent recent record in all games against Berkshire teams winning nine, drawing two and just the one loss last season away at Maidenhead United.

Two former Weymouth legends played for Slough before later featuring for the Terras – Ralph Miller in the 1970’s and Mick Doherty in the 1980’s.
