Gareth Jones told the Weymouth FC Women matchday programme, “It is great to see the huge progress that Weymouth Women FC have made in such a short time. I am sure that today’s FA Cup 1st Round tie against a National League Div 1 club is just the start of great things at the club.
“I would like to congratulate everyone who has played a part in bringing this success to the club both on and off the field. I’ve been involved in elite women’s sport (albeit egg chasers) and know that sport makes a great difference to people’s lives. At the moment, the success of the England football and rugby teams (fingers crossed that another world cup came home yesterday) shows that women’s sport is well and truly on the map. I am sure that Weymouth Women FC can and will move forward, whatever, the outcome today, to be a major sports success in the coming years. This is just the start.
“I see today as the first step on a journey to bring greater success and community engagement to the Women’s section of the club. I want to be part of that and I would encourage anyone who loves sport to get on the train now – as this team is going places. It’s an honour to sponsor today’s historic game and I wish both teams every success (though obviously Weymouth 1 goal more success than Keynsham!).”

Please note that FA Cup games are not included in the Weymouth FC season ticket.
