I enjoy Christmas.
Especially the buildup to Christmas Day. It’s a joyous time of the year and it’s nice to see everyone in a good mood.
I celebrate Christmas Eve the most.
That’s when we’ll have our big dinner. It’s our chance for everyone to get together, usually at my auntie’s house. Then, I open my presents the following morning. I’ve always done it like that.
I’m used to enjoying this part of the year with my entire family.
My auntie is the host, and we’ll all go to hers to spend time together. I’ll hopefully have Christmas Day off to do that, although this is my first Christmas as a full-time footballer so I’ll have to see if it’s any different this year. Hopefully not!
The best gift I have ever received was…
a Playstation 4. This was 2017, and at the time I was the only one out of my friends to have an Xbox One, so as you can imagine I was begging my parents to buy me this present. Luckily they did and I could finally play online with my mates!
It was nice of them to do that.
My Christmas dinner has to include…
roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, carrots and, of course, gravy. Those are the non-negotiables. As for the meat, my family will always have more than one prepared. I tend to go for the turkey, but there’s usually duck as a choice, too. There’s a lot of people to feed. Even though I’m a footballer, I always eat more than everyone else!
The food that needs to be banned at Christmas is…
Brussels sprouts. I know I won’t be alone in saying that. I also don’t like parsnips. I’ll never get used to how they taste.
Christmas doesn’t feel the same now I’m older.
Ever since I found out that Santa wasn’t real, it began to slowly die down. Now, I’m also playing football so there’s less time off to enjoy the holidays. Not that I’m complaining though. I love what I’m doing.
But this doesn’t mean it still isn’t enjoyable. This year was the first time I bought presents for the rest of my family, as I’m not lucky to be able to do so. My family have done a lot for me; it’s nice to give back to them.
The player I would choose to get me the best gift is…
Christie Ward. I know him better than anyone else in the team.
The player that would host the best Christmas get-together is…
Jake McCarthy. He’s a funny guy and one of the loudest in the changing room. Those are the qualities you need to host a gathering.
I enjoy Christmas songs.
They can be a bit repetitive, but you only have to hear them once a year. They’re very nostalgic; I get flashbacks to my childhood listening to them
“Last Christmas” by Wham is without doubt the best one. I’m definitely into the classics!
The club has still had time to unwind during this busy period.
The players had a Christmas do. I unfortunately couldn’t go, though. It’s sometimes hard for Christie and I to get involved as much as we would like to since we’re part of two clubs.
But right now we have a lot of tough fixtures coming up, and it’s up to us to stay focused and start picking up points.
My Christmas wish for Weymouth this year would be…
to stay up, considering where we are in the table. But I still think it’s more than doable. We just have to keep working hard and use every game as a learning curve. That way, we can start winning.
