Following our sensational result last weekend, we have the opportunity to build on from our victory tomorrow afternoon away to Chesham United.
In context, Warren Feeney spoke to us about how we were able to win not getting carried away, and more…
Here’s what he had to say:
On Saturday’s performance:
I’ve been delighted with how we’ve played recently, even against Hampton & Richmond Borough where we just couldn’t put the ball in the net, and last weekend everything clicked into place.
But, that was just one result and now we have to build on it and get a run going.
On not getting carried away:
We’re still a long way off where we want to be. We have to remain competitive, there’s a lot of work to do, but all we can do is just take one game at a time.
On how to keep a lead:
It’s vital to get the first goal in a game. If that doesn’t happen you just have to make sure you stay in it, but it was nice for us to be the ones scoring first at the weekend.
Welling pulled one back, but we showed great character and played some great football in the second half and we could have scored even more. We were very comfortable come the end of the game.
On winning for the fans:
The biggest thing is that the result was pleasing for the fans. They’re the ones who pay and travel to watch us, so we were desperate to put a smile on their faces. It was brilliant to see how happy they were after the game.
On how we managed to score so many goals:
As I’ve said before, if you score in training you’ll score in a game. You look at players like Ronaldo, do you think they just turned up to a game expecting to put one in the top corner?
Of course not – his goals were as a result of hours and hours of practice.
On Brooklyn Genesini:
He took both of his goals very well, both with ball-to-feet. It was pleasing for me to see because he initially started for me, before I changed the line-up a little. Now he’s back in the side and he can make that right-back position his own.
On fitness news:
Things are good. We’re getting a few bodies back which is very pleasing. We’re heading into a crucial period and having players return will make things a lot easier for us. We want a strong squad where there’s plenty of competition for places.
On the mood ahead of tomorrow’s game:
The boys are confident. We had a good night’s train on Thursday and we’re all looking forward to it, but it will be a tough game. Chesham are doing well, they have a physical team with good players, though all we can do is worry about ourselves.
On our objectives:
We need points. There’s no hiding away from that, especially ahead of a good side like Chesham, who we respect just like any opposition. But, at the end of the day this is a perfect opportunity for us to get another win.
