CHAIRMAN-ELECT Steve Mills revealed the Terras have drawn up a shortlist of six candidates to become their next permanent manager, with Gosport boss Alex Pike claimed to be one of the names in the running.
The Weymouth board were set to hold phone interviews following today’s 2-0 win over Chesham United at the Bob Lucas Stadium, with the view of having three face-to-face interviews over the coming week.
The Terras’ director also claimed the club remain keen to get their next manager in place before the season comes to an end next Saturday.
“We have had so many applications it’s been a hard job whittling it all down,” Mills told Echosport.
“The amount we have had has been incredible, it just goes to show how big a club we are at non-League level.
“We have had one from Canada, Spain and Italy. Most of them have been very credible and it has taken us a while to whittle them down.
“We are down to about half a dozen. There are six good applicants.”
He added: “There will be some face-to-face interviews later in the week and we will hopefully have a decision by the Leamington game.
“We are looking at trying to get it down to three for face-to-face interviews, then we will make a decision.”
Gosport boss Pike said last week: “I think Weymouth are a fantastic club and I’m honoured that I have been linked with it. I know that I could do a fantastic job at Weymouth.”
Asked whether Pike had applied for the role, Mills replied: “Yes, he has applied.
Quizzed on whether he would be someone the club would consider, Mills added: “I will make an announcement during the week.”
