WEYMOUTH defender Brennan Camp is relishing his loan spell with the Terras as it allows him to play in his favoured centre-back role.
Prior to his second stint at the Bob Lucas Stadium, Camp, 19, had been stationed at right-back with parent club Bournemouth’s Under-21s to cover for full-back Charlie Seaman’s loan to Eastleigh.
Camp has responded to manager Mark Molesley’s faith in him by securing three man-of-the-match awards, the latest coming in Saturday’s 1-0 FA Trophy third qualifying round win over Hastings.
Speaking to Echosport, Camp revealed his pleasure at returning to central defence with Weymouth.
He said: “I started the season playing right-back nearly every game and training as a right-back because the 21s’ right-back (Seaman) did go out on loan.
“I was the replacement for him, which got me in quite a lot of games and I played in the Premier League Cup at right-back.
“It’s nice learning that position, it’s always good to play in more than one, so that was good for me. Since going back to Weymouth I’ve slotted back in at centre-back which is what I wanted to do.”
The Portland-born teenager gave an insight into his life at the Vitality Stadium having signed his first professional contract with the Cherries last summer.
He said: “I have been full-time the past two years but it’s a bit different being a pro.
“It’s nine to five every day, the gym every day so it’s quite demanding but I’m enjoying it. Especially with the loan, it’s definitely helping me improve as a player.”
Camp, who finished the 2018/19 on loan at the Terras, admitted he had long targeted a return to Weymouth.
“At the start of the season, I always wanted to go back there,” he said. “It’s a good level for me at this age, playing in the (National League) South.
“Of course, Weymouth like to play football so it’s a good fit for me and having the other Bournemouth lads (Calum Ward, Shaun Hobson and Sam Sherring) there it’s good.
“I’m enjoying men’s football and have games every Tuesday and Saturday, that’s what I want as a player and it’s going well recently.”
Camp also stated the fluidity between Bournemouth and Weymouth, not least with Terras’ boss Mark Molesley also fulfilling his assistant role to Cherries’ under-21 boss Shaun Cooper.
“(Molesley) always tries to implement the Bournemouth way into Weymouth,” Camp revealed.
“It’s just nice to speak to him, he knows me and how I like to play. It works quite well for both of us.
“I’d like to stay there for the season if I could, but that’s not down to me.”
