WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admitted the Terras have their “work cut out” ahead of visiting National League side Barnet in their FA Trophy first-round tie tomorrow (3pm).
While just 19 places separate the two teams, with Weymouth fourth in the Vanarama National League South, Molesley believes facing the Bees could be his players’ toughest game of the season.
This is despite a cruel 2-1 FA Cup fourth qualifying round loss to National League outfit Dover, who were eighth at the time.
Ahead of the clash at the Hive Stadium, Molesley stated Weymouth need to be at their “very best” to trouble the Bees, who have won their past two fixtures.
He told Echosport: “It’s a game we’re really excited for. These are the games we want.
“We want to test ourselves against the best teams and Barnet are certainly going to be our toughest game of the season.
“From what we’ve seen of them they’re very athletic, very skilful. Their manager (Darren Currie) has got them playing very well and we’ve really got our work cut out.
“We’re excited by the challenge and we feel we’ve got the potential to give a good account of ourselves.
“But we’ve got to have a very good day at the office and be at our very best to give them a good game.”
Molesley is confident his squad can rise to the occasion, adding: “Whatever challenge is thrown at them they give it their all.
“We feel we’ve got a good team and potential to cause them some problems but they’ve got plenty of threats.
“That’s what makes this cup game so great – it gives an inkling into what life is like in the league above and gives us even more fuel for our fire to try and reach it one day.”
Andy Robinson (ankle) will be assessed closely with bone bruising, while Sam Sherring (ankle) is nearing a return and could make the bench.
Cameron Murray (shin and ankle) will be rested and Jordan Ngalo (hamstring) is a doubt. Jack Hoey (arm) has begun running work but is unable to undertake contact work.
