WINGER Sean Shields tipped Weymouth’s crop of talent for “bigger and better things” after playing his part in a 2-1 win over King’s Lynn on Saturday.
Shields, who signed for the Terras prior to the 1-0 defeat at Barnet, hit a post and also won the decisive penalty against the Linnets, enabling Tom Whelan to tuck home the winner.
Despite having only been at the Bob Lucas Stadium for a week, Shields has been impressed by the Terras’ National League setup.
He told TerrasOD: “From what I’ve seen so far this is a really, really young, talented group of players.
“What I’ll be looking to implement is a little bit more experience and hopefully help these boys fulfil their potential in terms of having a really good season.
“I believe a lot of them can go on to bigger and better things. If you do well in this league, the world’s your oyster.
“I don’t see any reason, as a group, why we can’t be successful.”
Commenting on his own display against King’s Lynn, Shields said: “I’m disappointed with it, to be honest.
“I feel as if I’ve sent the keeper the wrong way and I haven’t got it quite right and it’s ended up coming off the post.
“An inch to the side it’s probably in, I should be scoring there one-on-one but thankfully we managed to get the job done.
“I’m not too sure if it’s a penalty. I thought (Ross Barrows) blocked it with his hand and I’ve ended up calling for it. I’ll have to see that one back.
“Most importantly it has got us the win and got the ball rolling. Hopefully now we can take that into the FA Cup and the league fixtures after, and really kick on.”
He added: “I thought it was a really professional performance. It probably was nowhere near as fluent as the game against Barnet where we enjoyed a lot of the ball in good areas and passed it really well.
“(Saturday) we defended solidly and looked very good on the counter-attack, so it was a completely different type of performance and it culminated in us getting the three points.”
