Match Preview: Weymouth v Woking – Tuesday 23rd November 2021 – 19:45

A quick turnaround from Saturday’s fixture as Tuesday evening football returns to the Bob Lucas Stadium as The Terras take on Woking in the Vanarama National League.

THE TERRAS

It was another tough game on Saturday as Weymouth found themselves playing with ten men for over 70 minutes against Altrincham as Tom Bearwish was unfortunately sent off in the first half. The game finished 4-1 to Altrincham, with Taofiq Olomowewe scoring the only goal for the Terras after his headed goal from a corner. It means that Tuesday’s game against Woking is a chance to put things right and get a positive result to move forwards and pick up more points. Following the defeat, Brian Stock, whilst disappointed, defended his players for their attitude throughout the game. “The mentality and intensity that we want to play at for 90 minutes remained and for that, the boys will always have my backing because they never chucked the towel in”.

Looking towards the Woking game on Tuesday evening, the gaffer said: “We have to move on quickly, another game around the corner, another tough game. But a game that we are desperate to get a result out of.”

On team news, Stock said: “Playing with ten men over the last couple of games will take their toll on one or two of the players given how hard they worked. We didn’t want to take a chance on Andy Robinson before the game (against Altrincham). Obviously, Ollie Harfield coming back from suspension is a bonus for the squad, so that’s a natural replacement straight away (for Bearwish). The only real concerns going into Tuesday is Ben Thomson with his knee and Xander McBurnie who’s still to get up to speed.”

Player To Watch: Ollie Harfield

It will be a welcome return to the back line for left back Ollie Harfield who returns from suspension and is likely to return to the starting lineup against Woking. He has consistently shown a top attitude and has been strong in defence but also a great asset going forward with his attacking runs on the wing and his creative play to aid The Terras front line.

THE CARDINALS

Woking have begun the league campaign with seven wins from their opening fifteen games, but have been defeated eight times with no draws. Their last fixture was on Saturday as they hosted Stockport County at the Kingfield Stadium. Tahvon Campbell scored in the 66th minute for Woking but a first half double from Paddy Madden for Stockport was enough to seal victory, with The Cardinals looking to bounce back against Weymouth on Tuesday evening. Notable victories for Alan Dowson’s men include a 4-0 away win over Torquay United in August, a 4-1 win over Notts County away in October and also a 3-1 win over Chesterfield at home. Woking didn’t make the FA Cup First Round as they were knocked out by Horsham by one goal to nil. The Cardinals have only picked up two victories from their previous six games, something in which The Terras may look at as a potential opportunity to deny Woking picking up points at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Player To Watch: Tahvon Campbell

With three goals in his previous four games and reaching double figures on his goal tally for the season, Tahvon Campbell is going to be the main man to keep quiet in front of the Terras net on Tuesday evening. Woking are likely to look to Campbell to add to his goal tally as The Cardinals look to bounce back from defeat on Saturday.
