Weymouth fell to a 2-0 defeat against Halifax Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Terras started brightly, winning a corner within the 1st minute. Terras Captain Josh McQuoid stepped up to float in the corner, which was hooked towards goal with a left footed volley from Dan Smith before Halifax had the chance to clear.
The game was end-to-end in the early stages with neither side taking control. Billy Waters played a through pass to Jordan Slew, who ran past his marker before cutting in from the left. The winger dribbled his way into the box, however managed to lose some momentum, producing a tame shot that was cleared away easily by Tyler Cordner.
The side from Yorkshire had the first shot on target, coming in the 14th minute when Waters was first to react to a ball in the box, pouncing on the shot first time, however Fitzsimons judged the shot well, getting down low to parry the shot down, for Haji Mnoga to clear the ball away.
The pace of the game seemed to die down soon after this, but Weymouth had the next window of opportunity in the 33rd minute. A long throw-in coming from Haji Mnoga was flicked on acrobatically by Smith in the box but the chance was cleared but only as far as Cordner on the edge of the box. The centre-back brought the ball down well before striking a looping effort on goal, however the ball went narrowly over the bar.
Halifax had a great chance to take the lead in the 39th minute, but it came to nothing. Slew had found space to run on the left side of the pitch and played in a low driven cross into the penalty area, however with no Halifax players in the area, the ball went out of play.
On the stroke of half time, the Shaymen came closest to breaking the deadlock. A ball from the right was played into Martin Woods, who took the chance on first time with his left. The ball, taken by the wind swerved before crashing against the cross bar. The ball came back out to Kian Spence but his headed chance over the bar was flagged for offside.
Five minutes into the second half, Halifax were awarded a set piece on the edge of the area. Woods stepped up in an attempt to curl in the effort with his left. The ball was angled towards Fitzsimon’s near post- but the keeper did well to push the chance away.
Danger still on Weymouth, this time Waters had a low shot on the edge of the box. Fitzsimons did well again to put his body in the way, but there was so much power on the shot that the ball looped over the goalkeeper, bound for goal. Haji Mnoga was positioned well to head the ball off the line.
Then, just 8 minutes into the half, the fax made their pressure pay off. A set piece was awarded far from goal, floated in by Luke Summerfield. The ball was flicked on behind by Ollie Harfield but only as far as Tom Bradbury at the back post who tapped home the chance across the face of goal.
Weymouth were trying to press for the goal, and had a great opening in the 69th minute. Substitute Tom Blair challenged for a loose ball well, showing his strength storming into the box before laying the ball off to Bradley Ash who took on the shot, but the ball went wide of Johnson’s left post.
Weymouth had their first shot on target in the 84th minute. A long throw in found its way to Blair in the area, who took the shot on the turn, however the substitute failed to connect properly with the ball.
The visitors added insult to injury, doubling their lead on the 90th minute mark. A long ball down the right came to Jamie Thomas, who had just entered the field of play. The winger cut inside well and slid in a low pass to the front post which was tapped in well by fellow substitute Zak Dearnley just yards away from goal.
