BOSS Jason Matthews has made it perfectly clear that he would like to keep on-loan striker Stuart Fleetwood at Weymouth next season.
The experienced frontman, who revealed to Echosport that he was “open to any options” when asked about his future last week, netted his 15th goal in Terras’ colours since his arrival from Bath City on loan, in Weymouth’s 2-2 draw at Merthyr on Saturday.
Quizzed on whether he would be trying to snap up Fleetwood for next season, Matthews told Echosport: “Fleets is one we would like to keep. Whether it is possible or not, we will be speaking to Fleets over the next couple of weeks.
“Knowing Fleets and, with his goalscoring record over the years, he will have options on the table. Whether Weymouth is viable with where he lives, I don’t know.
“What I would say though is that Fleets is loving his time with us and I think we have given him a new lease of life.
“He is able to play with freedom with the management style that I use.”
Asked about the draw with the Martyrs, Matthews added: “It was a decent game for the neutral and I was really pleased with the boys.
“They put in a good shift and it was a decent performance overall against a good Merthyr team.
“I thought on the day we shaded it and were undone by a couple of debatable refereeing decisions.”
