TERRAS’ player-coach Mark Molesley has made a huge impact since taking on coaching responsibilities at the club, and he is “very much enjoying it”.
Having stepped on to the backroom staff at the Bob Lucas Stadium this season after just featuring as a player last term, Molesley is full of praise for the way the Weymouth side have taken his ideas on board.
The 35-year-old has also received high praise from player-manager Jason Matthews in recent weeks, who stated in an interview with Echosport the midfielder’s pre-season sessions have been “outstanding”.
Molesley told Echosport: “It was the lads and the squad from last year that made me want to get involved because I could see what potential they had and what a good bunch of lads they are.
“I think the squad as a whole has taken things on board, been respectful to me, listened, and gone with what I am trying to do, so I can only thank them for that.
“I am very much enjoying it and the gaffer (Matthews) has been great. He has given me a quite a big responsibility on the training pitch.
“If we can get most of our work done there it will show on a Saturday and Tuesday.”
He added: “I still haven’t hung the boots up just yet, so I am there if they need me but, so far, the lads have applied themselves so well and they are looking good. At the moment I am taking on more shouting than playing!
“There are going to be testing times this season but we are a tight group and we are looking to be the best that we can.”
Molesley’s role comes alongside his work with AFC Bournemouth, where he will assist Cherries’ under-21s’ boss Stephen Purches during the upcoming campaign.
“I am really enjoying the coaching, to be honest,” Molesley said.
“I am so blessed to have an opportunity at Bournemouth to get involved with the under-21s. I am fortunate that I am around some very good people there.
“From a learning point of view it’s great and then I have men’s senior football at Weymouth as well.
“I think the coaching side of it is probably where I lie. I will leave the managing to the gaffer – I don’t want anyone knocking on my door!”
