A TROPHY is firmly on Terras’ boss Jason Matthews’ hit-list, as Weymouth bid for silverware in the final of the Dorset Senior Cup this evening.
Dorchester Town’s Avenue Stadium is the neutral stage as Matthews’ troops face off against Western League outfit Gillingham Town tonight (7.45pm) looking to seal the county crown for the second successive season.
The Weymouth player-manager, whose side have beaten Verwood and Dorchester on the way to the final, is set to rotate his squad this evening – he is also likely to give himself a rest.
But, despite a couple of expected changes, that will not stop the boss wanting to retain the cup, and he is gunning for glory after getting a taste of it last term.
“We want to win every game we can, now that we are at the business end of the season,” Matthews told Echosport.
“Any trophy is worth winning and we hae a chance to retain a trophy that we won last year, which is nice
“The league for me is the main priority this season but I’m not taking anything away from the Dorset Senior Cup because I want to win that as well.”
The Gills go into tonight’s clash having struck seven times without reply to beat Bitton in league action at the weekend, their goals came through a Harry Baker hat-trick, and two each for Phil Ormrod and Jon Vance.
Asked if going into the contest against lower league opposition came with any added pressure, Matthews said: “The pressure for me is no more than usual.
“There is a massive pressure of being Weymouth manager because people think that Weymouth are the biggest club in the Southern League and we should be winning every game.
“The boys need to go out there and do the business.”
