Josh Barton of theterras.com had a catch up with Terras Assistant Manager Paul Maitland, discussing pre-season drawing to a close and the potential for some new haircuts! 👀
Josh Barton: With pre-season drawing to a close, is the squad ready for the start of the Southern Premier League season?
Paul Maitland: Yes we aren’t too far away. We still have some tidying up to do but I’m sure that’s the same for a lot of clubs. We’ve been looking at different approaches and ways of working in training throughout pre-season. Obviously, everything we do now is all in preparation for the first game against St Ives.
JB: With this new era for the club, including your role as Mark Molesley’s number two, are you excited about getting going with the competitive games?
PM: I think there is always a buzz around every club for the start of the new season. Pre-season is great but it is hard work for players and staff, albeit it is vitally necessary and important in the build up to what is a long season. The squad is ready to go and like I said we are just ironing out a few things so we are absolutely prepared for next Saturday. The Wimborne game is the final opportunity out on the pitch to have a look at a few different games and it will be very much about preparation for the St Ives game.
JB: Do you urge supporters to come to the BLS on Tuesday night to see the players in training? Also, are you looking forward to having a new pen pic?
PM: For those supporters who can go, it is a great opportunity to see how we do things in training. It will also give the supporters an insight of how hard the players have been working in training. With the forum afterwards, it is also an opportunity for the supporters to ask questions to the Mark and the coaching team. In regards to the pen pics, I don’t think anyone will be too worried about my new pen pic Josh! We do expect a fair few new haircuts to be on show and to be honest it is great for camaraderie within the squad.
JB: Any early team news for Saturday?
PM: Ben Thomson and Nick Thomas will return to the squad. We will be using the game as the final game of preparation with the first game of the season very much in the forefront of our minds. We know we may some difficult decisions to make next week.
