Jake McCarthy gave us his thoughts ahead of our FA Cup tie at Odd Down.
Josh Barton: It must’ve been a good feeling for you scoring a brace in the derby on Monday?
Jake McCarthy: Yeah it’s always great to grab a few goals and help the team no matter what the game, but it was even better to do it in the derby and secure all three points.
JB: How do you rate the teams start to the season, 5 games in?
JM: We have started the season well, 10 points from 5 games is a good return. We still have a lot more to bring to the table, we need to perform for the whole 90 mins and not just spells of the game. We are only just getting started and we want to kick on now and win as many games as possible.
JB: Do you feel a sense of responsibility since being named our on field captain?
JM: Yes I do feel a sense of responsibility to be named the on field captain. I’m wearing the arm band and I feel as though I need to focus on my game even more to set the right example that a captain should, with my performances.
JB: There were plenty of Terras supporters behind the team on Monday. How much of a difference can they make to the teams chances of success?
JM: The support at the derby from the Weymouth fans was brilliant. I could hear them from the first to the last minute. Having the fans behind us and on our side gives us a massive advantage wherever we are playing. It does give us that extra boost to go on and get the points!
JB: We go to Odd Down on Saturday. Can you describe the buzz of playing in the FA Cup? It’s a competition that players seem to love playing in.
JM: Yeah there is always a buzz around playing in the fa cup! Everyone wants to play in it and do well. It’s important to try get a cup run going, as well as doing well in the league for us this season. Every player I’ve spoke to is wanting to play in this game, we are just hoping we can get the win and be in the hat for next round.
