MARK Molesley called on the Weymouth fans to ‘get loud and get behind us’ as the Terras face an opportunity to claim the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South title at home against Chesham United on Saturday.
A win for the Terras, combined with Taunton Town not beating Hendon, will result in the league title heading to the Bob Lucas Stadium, and Molesley emphasised the club’s gratitude towards the fans.
Molesley said: “We need our fans to get loud and get behind us, I think these boys have proved that they are worth backing.
“We are going to need everyone together to get over that line and our fans can be such a strong point for us.
“We are going to need them to stand up, there might be times of frustration but we need them to stand by us because they can be such a strength of ours.”
Molesley emphasised the club’s gratitude towards the fans’ support, before adding: “I really hope that they turn up in their numbers and get behind the boys, because I think they deserve the backing and together we are stronger and it is such a big advantage having a big crowd behind you.”
In search of victory, Weymouth face a Generals side that they have made a habit of beating during Molesley’s reign.
In that time, the Terras have four victories in the league during his tenure and are yet to concede a single goal in that time.
Molesley admits his side are excited and is pleased to be in a title fight, saying it is where they want to be at this stage of the season.
Molesley said: “I think we are excited, we are where we want to be at the end of the season. We are competing for a title, we have got everything to look forward to.
“It is an exciting time but one in which we have got to remain fully focused and not get too carried away on.
“We have got to focus on our roles and responsibilities and do the best we can to get the job done.”
However, when asked about potential results elsewhere, Molesley said: “We can only focus on ourselves, we will let everyone else get excited with the results and all that, we will not be looking, we will just be focusing on ourselves and our game.”
Last time out, Weymouth saw a 10-match unbeaten run in the league end with a 1-0 defeat at Beaconsfield, and Molesley hopes they can use it as a wake-up call.
Molesley, when asked if the defeat will be a wake up call, replied: “I hope so, that is the way we have got to look at it, as a little bit of a slap round the face and use it as a wake-up call.
“All we can do is look to react in the best way we can and use it as fuel for our fire.
“Having said that we were bitterly unlucky last week, I don’t think we were at our best, but what I can say is that we created enough chances to win the game.
“It is almost like the fortune was not on our side that Saturday, but I am a firm believer that if we stick to our process, stick to the way we are doing it most of the time, we do it well, we have got a good chance of getting something out of the game.”
Callum Buckley, Tiago Sa and Josh McQuoid will ‘probably struggle’ to be ready for Saturday.
