Match Preview: Weymouth v King’s Lynn Town – Saturday 30th October – 15:00

Weymouth return to the Bob Lucas Stadium in the Vanarama National League as they face King’s Lynn Town on Saturday afternoon.

THE TERRAS

Weymouth got back to winning ways and recorded a clean sheet against Aldershot Town on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 victory. Ben Thomson’s header from close range and an Aldershot own goal from a corner to the Terras sealed the three points, much to the delight of Brian Stock and the travelling fans. There was also a strong defensive performance from The Terras, particularly from Taofiq Olomowewe who was in exceptional form and of course Ross Fitzsimons who made some crucial saves. Given the collective performance on show, there is great optimism that the Terras can now go on and make it back-to-back victories on Saturday at the Bob Lucas Stadium. Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture against King’s Lynn Town, Brian Stock said, following Tuesday’s win, “We go into the game full of confidence, they’re a good side, they like to play football in the right way, it’s a tough game but they’re all tough games in this league”.

Player To Watch: Taofiq Olomowewe

Taofiq deserved all the credit he received after the game against Aldershot due to his outstanding performance. He contributed to the Terras’ first clean sheet of the season with some great defensive work to close down opponents and clear big chances created by Aldershot. The Terras would love to continue to grab clean sheets and if Taofiq can continue to be a rock at the back, he could be key on Saturday and in future weeks to help gain three points.

THE LINNETS

King’s Lynn Town have two victories from twelve games played so far this season in the National League. The victories for the Linnets were a 2-1 win away to Yeovil in August and a 3-2 win away to Maidenhead on 2nd October. King’s Lynn Town are currently four league games without a win and sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference, but The Linnets defeated Peterborough Sports in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round earlier this month which sets them up for a Round 1 tie against Walsall in November. The Terras will also pay attention to the fact that King’s Lynn have also failed to score in their previous three league matches, which could give the team confidence to commit men forward and create lots of chances.

Player To Watch: Michael Clunan

In his sixth year at King’s Lynn Town, Clunan, the Linnets skipper, has been a key part of the Linnets opening twelve fixtures and also has picked up two goals this season from midfield. The Linnets will be searching for a needed win and goals and the skipper may be called upon to create chances for the forward line to get past The Terras defence on Saturday.

HEAD TO HEAD

Last season, Weymouth defeated King’s Lynn Town by 2 goals to 1 with Cody Cooke and Tom Whelan the goalscorers in October 2020 at the Bob Lucas Stadium. The reverse fixture saw a 2-2 draw between The Terras and The Linnets in February 2021 with Andy Dallas and Andy Robinson the goalscorers for Weymouth.

FINAL WORD

Both sides sit at the bottom end of the table both looking to gather some momentum to keep themselves safe of the drop zone. King’s Lynn Town will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league, whilst Brian Stock’s side will be looking to add to the performance shown against Aldershot and aim for back-to-back wins and clean sheets in the league.
