Interview with Terras Manager Mark Molesley

Ahead of tonight’s game versus Chippenham Town, we had a chat with our gaffer…

He was asked about recovering from losses, the importance of not taking the wrong risks, and more.

Here’s what he had to say on the following subjects…

On reflecting after the Hemel Hempstead loss:

We reflected straight away. No doubt it hurt us all, but, as a manager, it’s important to clear your head, remain calm and work out how to help the players as quickly as possible. The good thing about football is that we have another chance; it’s just a case of getting back on the bike and going again.

On Calvin Brooks’ return:

Massive. Calvin is a huge player for us. At the moment we have young and exciting players, who are getting used to what this league is about. So, having a few familiar faces, who are used to our methods, can help speed up the process as a whole.

We’ve got to use this period of struggle as a learning curve, but we’re also aware that football is a results-based business. But, we’re certainly not deterred by our start. The more we grow, the stronger we will be.

On Brandon Goodship’s recovery process:

He warmed up with the team on Saturday. Obviously we’d love to have him back playing, but you can’t take these sorts of risks this early into the season. We know we must get points on the board, but not at the risk of losing players for even longer periods. We do have a smaller squad than most.

On if Brandon and Calvin’s experience can prove to be a boost on the pitch:

Maybe we were lacking in experience on Saturday. But, they didn’t start and we’ve got to find a way [to win without them]. So, I’m certainly not making excuses. We’re looking for our players to be brave on the pitch, find solutions and show some personality. Without the more experienced players on the pitch, this period can prove to be a good experience for our younger players. The other side of this short-term pain is growth.

On Chippenham Town:

They have a very similar ethos to us; they play attractive football. They’ll probably be feeling unfortunate to have been on the losing end of two narrowly-fought contests, and they’ll be fighting for their first three points like us. So, first and foremost, we have to stand up to the challenge, before we impact the game with our way of playing.

On making sure we impose ourselves against Chippenham:

By showing that we’re up for the fight, we can smooth over a few rough edges after Saturday, and leave everything on the pitch.

On the importance of the fans:

They’re going to be vital. It’s important that they stick with us and support us, as this is where we need them more than ever. Together, we are stronger. But, it’s also important for us to give them something to cheer about. They’ve got to see us compete.
