Weymouth v Chippenham Town Match Preview

Monday 26 August, Bob Lucas Stadium, 15.00 BST

These games are coming around quickly, aren’t they, Terras fans?

It’s already our fifth of the season, as we host South-coast outfit Eastbourne Borough.

We are still searching for our first point of the campaign, following our 3-0 loss in Borehamwood at the weekend.

It was, despite the result, a performance that our gaffer thought was an example of our team “getting better.”

Eastbourne’s start to the season on the other hand, though, has been a little more mixed.

With two wins, one draw, and one loss, their seven points in four games places them firmly in the upper half of the table.

HOW TO FOLLOW

After Boreham Wood’s Saturday scheme, we are happy to announce that radio commentary will be provided to fans as usual; click HERE to access.

Live updates will also be posted on our social media accounts; footage and reaction will also be uploaded after the final whistle.

THE OPPOSITION

Formed in 1964, the club was initially known as Langney FC, and then Langney Sports, for nearly four decades – hence their nickname!

Their time as their former name saw them climb up three divisions in 17 years, after joining the Sussex County league in 1983 as one of its founding members.

Not bad for a side who, according to FA officials, were a mere “parks team.”

They have, though, had less luck with promotion efforts since earning a place in England’s sixth tier for the first time two decades ago.

Besides a three-year period spent in the then-Conference National between 2008 and 2011, The Sports have spent much of their subsequent time in this division bouncing around mid-table.

However, if there’s any team to feel particularly aggrieved by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s the East-Sussex side.

A third-place position was ultimately put into lockdown with an early cancellation of the campaign.

But, with a 19th-placed finish last season, the club’s position tells a different story.

Adam Murray has, though, got off to a decent start in his first full year in charge.

With seven points in four games, the club have started the campaign respectably.

That is, however, without facing the mighty Terras, keen to show there’s only one ‘Sports’ team in town.

PREVIOUS RESULTS

Between our 15 games, the visitors boast the upper hand with their seven wins to our six.

One of those was the last time we faced each other; a crucial 1-0 Eastbourne win helped them pull a Great Escape of their own.

With our solitary win in seven, the less said about our recent record versus The Sports, the better.

That sole victory, though, came last season, when Tom Bearwish and Ezio Touray helped us to a deserved 3-1 result.

If we want a similar result today, we will need all the help we can get from our skipper and super-sub…
