JORDAN Copp will not be a Weymouth player next season, Echosport can reveal.
The former Plymouth youngster held talks with manager Mark Molesley this week over his future and it was decided that both parties were to go their separate ways.
Copp, who came in during Jason Matthews’ first full season in charge, admitted he is exiting the Bob Lucas Stadium with a heavy heart.
He told Echosport: “I’d just like to say that, at this point, I don’t really want to leave.
“I am absolutely gutted that I am leaving but, in terms of the travelling I am going to be doing, it’s not really on.
“Moles and I came to the agreement that it’s probably best if both parties move on really. It’s with a heavy heart that I am leaving but it is what it is.
“I will miss the boys and I made some really good mates there. I think the club in general is run so well, it’s a proper football club and it deserves to be higher up and in a better league than what it is.”
He added: “I will be looking out (for the club) all the time on Twitter and almost become a nosey fan really.
“I really do wish Moles, Paul (Maitland, assistant) and all the lads that stay the greatest of success for next season.
“I think in Moles they have a coach that really know what he is doing and he will be able to take the club to what they want to achieve next year, I really believe that.”
Commenting on Copp’s departure, Terras’ manager Molesley added: “This is the horrible part of being a manager – delivering news that you might not be keeping someone.
“Coppy is certainly a talented lad and has a lot of attributes that I’d look for in a player technically. He is very good and quick.
“But it’s a balancing act as a manager now. It’s no secret that I am trying to get more local players, Coppy does a lot of mileage to get here and I thought it was best that we parted ways.
“That’s never to say never to him. By all means he can come back in pre-season and maybe prove me wrong and try and earn something.
“I just feel that, location-wise, it was not easy for him.”
