JASON Matthews has heaped praise on Terras’ frontman Ben Thomson, insisting “for me, he is the best striker in the league”.
Former Frome man Thomson netted a brace in the Dorset Senior Cup for Weymouth against Dorchester Town last week, as well as putting in another stellar display in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Redditch United.
Matthews told Echosport: “I feel that Ben Thomson has really found his feet now and, for me, he is the best striker in the league.
“Coming to Weymouth at this level comes with an expectation and you have to live up to it.
“I think he and Yetti (Stewart Yetton) are chasing down lost causes and it makes a massive difference. That’s something we did a lot last season at the start.
“Ben’s transition (from Frome) has been very quick and he is becoming a little more mentally strong now.
“I think he is buying into what we are trying to do and credit to him.”
The Terras’ chief added: “Ben had a problem with his hamstring when he first came to us and it’s something we have tried to address and help him with.

“He still has little niggles but he is a big powerful striker and he’s going to get those.
“I need to manage him well and, travelling with Ben, I feel that I do know him fairly well and all I ask is for him to be honest with me.”
