WEYMOUTH manager Brian Stock praised the Terras’ defence as his side held Eastleigh to a 0-0 draw in the Vanarama National League.
Stock spoke of his satisfaction as Weymouth showed a “different side” to their game at the Silverlake Stadium, soaking up pressure resolutely late on.
It was Weymouth’s first clean sheet since a 0-0 draw at Altrincham on the opening day of the campaign.
Eastleigh came closest to breaking the deadlock when skipper Joe Partington hit the post in the fifth minute, while star striker Ben House passed up two glorious opportunities.
Weymouth could only fashion two minor chances for Cody Cooke as the Terras’ attack failed to fire.
Speaking to Echosport, Stock said: “You’d like three points, but when you look at the circumstances, what we’ve gone through, we showed a different side to our game.
“In the final third we were quite poor, we rushed our decisions. We got into some good areas and didn’t capitalise.
“When I question the general gist of what a Weymouth team looks like, we showed a real desire and were very resolute in our defending.
“At times we invited quite a bit of pressure, especially second half, but we defended very well.”
He added: “I don’t think you go to many places away from home and not expect to be under pressure at certain parts of the game.
“Eastleigh did put us under pressure and they would probably be thinking they could’ve converted one or two chances.
“On the flip side, we looked quite dangerous on the counter-attack but were wasteful in possession.
“We were compact, organised and we’ve not kept a clean sheet since the first game of the season so that was a real positive for us.
“Away from home to a team challenging for the top six, to keep a clean sheet is excellent.”
New loan signing Christian Saydee came on for his debut with 10 minutes remaining, and Stock was encouraged by the 18-year-old’s display.
Stock said: “He came on, made an impact, worked his socks off and he’s going to be a great asset for the team.”
