WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock believes the Terras’ 4-0 dismissal of Poole Town was flooded with positives.
Stock, overseeing his third game in eight days as manager, watched on as a flurry of goals from Andreas Robinson, Jack Hoey and Tom Whelan backed up a first-half Josh McQuoid penalty.
Southampton loanee goalkeeper Jack Bycroft was untroubled as he kept a clean sheet with ease.
With only one training session under his belt, Stock was impressed by how quickly the Terras’ squad have absorbed his ideas.
He said: “I’m stood there five minutes to the end thinking ‘is there any negative to the performance?’
“The lads that have come off the bench, a debut from Jack – he looked comfortable – there were loads of positives.
“I’ve had one training session and straight away they’ve listened and taken things on board – certain rotations we’ve worked on, patterns in play.
“Our combination in wide areas was excellent and there are so many positives. The squad has every right to challenge for a starting place come the end of the season.
“I’ve reinforced that in the changing room, whether the start, are on the bench or in the stands.”
Stock felt Weymouth’s dominance was down to Poole opting to put numbers behind the ball, allowing the Terras’ centre-backs to dictate play.
He said: “Every game’s going to be different. When you come up against a team like Havant, for instance, their pressing is very aggressive.
“We struggled to play out and had to adapt. It’s going to happen this year.
“Poole decided to put the majority of their players behind the ball, so it becomes a game the centre-halves can dictate and I think they did that really well.
“I know Jake (McCarthy) is more naturally a midfield player but I thought he was excellent.
“Although the first five or 10 minutes wasn’t quite there, and I had to reinforce that from the bench, I thought they were brilliant.”
