Outbreak handled ‘very professionally’

WEYMOUTH chairman Ian White has praised the Terras’ setup for “very professionally” handling the outbreak of Covid-19 within the club.

Weymouth director and Covid officer Mark Golsby plus director of football Paul Maitland, among others, were heavily involved in informing the National League of the eruption of positive tests.

Echosport understands a significant number of the Terras’ playing squad and backroom team have contracted Covid-19.

League officials were subsequently forced to place Weymouth into “full isolation” until Monday, November 16 – one day before arch-rivals Yeovil Town visit the Bob Lucas Stadium.

White told Echosport: “Everybody that’s been involved from Mark through everybody else, Paul, have all worked very hard and very professionally to put everything into place, contact the league and we are where we are.

“It’s been an excellent job done by those all the way through since it started, they’ve been working really, really well.”

White admitted finding the source of the wave in cases may prove immensely difficult.

“I think it’s almost impossible to find out where it’s come from,” he said.

“It’s going to be almost impossible to address where and why it happened, it’s one of those things with part-time teams.

“You can’t be in a bubble all the time. We’re in a bubble running up to the games, at training and on match days.

“Obviously outside the bubble a lot of our players have got other jobs and do other things.”
