The Terras make the journey across the border to North Wales to take on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.
Brian Stock’s side currently sit 20th in the National League and are fresh from their victory against high-flying Stockport County last Saturday. An early Andy Dallas goal and a string of saves from Ethan Ross epitomised the performance of the whole team, which secured Weymouth’s first double of the season.
On Friday afternoon, it was confirmed by the FA that there will be no relegation from the Vanarama National League this season, therefore the Terras are safe from the drop, however will look at the game ahead as a chance for revenge from their reverse leg at the Bob Lucas back in December. Weymouth were 2-0 up against Wrexham at half time, courtesy of goals from Josh McQuoid and Jake McCarthy. A turbulent final 18 minutes saw the visitors draw level in the 73rd minute. A comeback that took 1 minute to complete. A Shamir Mullings red card in the 89th minute capped off the Terras frustrations before Reece Hall-Johnsons cross-come-shot in added time gave all three points to the visitors.
Wrexham have had a frantic season off of the pitch, being taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney who, since February, now own a 100% stake in the club. On the pitch their form has been steady, losing just once in their last 11 games, 3-0, to Aldershot. Since the result, the Red Dragons have conceded just one goal in their prior 4 games. Midfielder Luke Young has been in form for the away side. The former Plymouth and Torquay man has scored 2 goals in his last 3 games. Wrexham’s top scorer this season so far is Kwame Thomas with 8 goals. The Terras will need to control Theo Vassell. He was instrumental in the game against the Terras back in December, scoring a brace within a minute.
The Terras are yet to beat the Red Dragons in the three fixtures between the sides but have come so far since December. Following victories against promotion chasing Stockport and Hartlepool United in recent weeks, one would not be able to write off Brian Stock’s side.
Thoughts from the Manager
Speaking to Brian Stock before the clash, the Terras boss praised the form of Saturdays opponents saying “A very impressive run of results, a tough challenge having only lost 1 in their last 11. Their home form is excellent, and are a well organised group of players.”
However Stock was confident his side will be prepared for the game saying “Its gonna be a tough test, but it’s one that we can go to in confidence, having beaten Stockport.”
“We’ve had good preparations leading into the game, done things right. I’m looking forward to it.”
