JASON Matthews insists he wants the Terras to up their game from Saturday’s performance against Frome Town for their final five league battles.
The Terras turned on the style in the second half to record a vital 2-0 victory, after an opening period in which their manager felt they were “lacklustre” against the Robins.
Giving his thoughts on the contest, Matthews told Echosport: “At the end of the day, it’s about grinding out three points and we did that very well. We saw the game through well.
“I was a little bit frustrated with the first-half performance and felt we needed to up our game a little bit and be brave. By that I mean getting on the ball and getting at Frome.
“In the second half I felt we got it down and played and it was a different game. Once we scored one I always thought we would go on to win the game.
“I probably want a little bit more from the lads and it will take more on Tuesday to beat Leamington but we are now just that little bit closer.”
Matthews also revealed that the Terras are going to have to nurse playmaker Chris Shephard through the rest of the campaign as his back problem appears to be ongoing. The former Exeter City man made a huge impact when he came on for the final 23 minutes against the Robins and displayed the star credentials he possesses in the Weymouth line-up.
“He is a massive player for us and it’s great to have an impact player like that to come off the bench,” the Terras’ boss added.
“Personally, I am very wary of Sheps getting hurt so we have to use him with kid gloves.
“He is desperate to play and sometimes we are probably guilty of rushing him back a little bit.”
