Biography

Frederick “Lutor” Pitman joined Weymouth in 1919 when the club reformed after the First World War. He quickly became the outstanding goalscorer of the rebuilt side and remained a first-team force for the next twelve years.

The verified ledger records 476 appearances and 253 goals between 1919 and 1931. Contemporary club research credits him with an even broader overall total of 268 goals, reflecting differences between surviving competition records, but both measures confirm his status as the greatest goalscorer in Weymouth’s history.

Pitman averaged roughly 22 goals a season across his twelve-year spell and combined extraordinary scoring consistency with one of the highest appearance totals of the club’s early era. His career provides an important link between the pre-war Terras and the statistical history preserved today.

Frederick Pitman died in 1972. More than a century after his debut, the “Lutor” name remains attached to Weymouth’s all-time goalscoring record.
