Paul Gregory Arnold

Biography

Paul Arnold joined Weymouth from Southampton in 1979 and became one of the most dependable defenders of the club’s Alliance Premier League era. Across nine seasons he was consistently among the side’s leading appearance-makers, collecting both top-appearance and Player of the Season honours.

The club ledger records 497 appearances, comprising 474 starts and 23 substitute appearances, with 13 goals. Arnold also carried major leadership responsibility: the club’s Hall of Fame account records that he captained the Terras on 297 occasions.

On 27 July 1985 Arnold and Bryan Lawrence were honoured with a joint testimonial against Arnold’s former club Southampton. Around 1,000 supporters attended at the Recreation Ground to recognise two outstanding long-serving players.

Arnold left Weymouth at the end of the 1987–88 season. His consistency, captaincy and nearly 500 appearances earned him induction into the Weymouth FC Hall of Fame in 2024.
