Anni Iannone

Biography

Aniello “Anni” Iannone was one of the most prolific and durable players in Weymouth history. His recorded Terras career ran from 1976 to 1993 and encompassed the final Recreation Ground years, the move to the Wessex Stadium and football in both the Alliance Premier League and Southern League.

The club ledger records 713 appearances—686 starts and 27 as a substitute—and 182 goals. That combination of longevity and scoring places him among the club’s leading appearance-makers and goalscorers.

Iannone was a major attacking figure in the inaugural Alliance Premier League season of 1979–80, scoring 22 times as Weymouth finished runners-up. He continued to serve the club across successive eras and was still part of the first-team group at the Wessex Stadium in the late 1980s.

His exceptional record was recognised in 2019 when he became an inaugural inductee into the Weymouth FC Hall of Fame.
