Matchday Preview – Bristol Manor Farm (A) Match Day 11
By Duncan Gardner
For reasons only known to the Southern league I’m sure…this Tuesday will see us already complete our home and away fixtures against Shaftesbury! Surely you should play each opponent one time before New Year’s Day and once after? Never mind, we are where we are!
But at least we can all revel in another Dorset derby under the lights in what I believe is our first competitive visit to Cockrams ever by a Weymouth first XI.
Of course it was only two months ago when our hosts made the trip down the A354 (other routes are available!) to face the Terras on another Tuesday evening. They made a quick start that night scoring first but the Terras powered back with a strong arial display and four goals (including three headers) to easily secure all three points in the end.
Last season The Rockies finished 5th in this division, a record high pyramid placing for the club. One man who helped them achieve that feat was the division’s top goalscorer Toby Holmes. Of course he headed south to the Bob Lucas stadium over the summer where he has continued his rich goal-scoring form with the Terras. He was not the only current Weymouth man in that successful side though as Lewis Brown was the key man in the middle for the red and white stripes.
In Shaftesbury’s lineup this evening there could be a host of familiar faces from Terras teams of yesteryear also – Harry Baker, Luke Burbidge, Jack Hoey, Cameron Murray & Alefe Santos could all feature for the home side.
Tonight marks a 9th Dorset derby under Jamie Wells and he will be keen to extend his record of not losing any to date with 6 wins and 2 draws under his belt.
Will Shaftesbury get the Cockrams rocking or can the Terras be crowing at the final whistle?
