About this record
The club's career ledger through May 2017 is combined with individually recorded competitive appearances from later seasons. Earlier games are not added twice.
0 competitive appearances have individual match records; 549 appearances in the career total do not yet have individual match links. Starts, substitutes and goals show recorded figures, not estimates for missing games. Friendlies and unclassified matches are listed separately and excluded from the competitive total. An unused substitute is not an appearance.
Biography
John Clarke was one of Weymouth’s great long-serving goalkeepers. His recorded first-team career stretched from 1963 to 1982, taking in the club’s back-to-back Southern League championship seasons, repeated cup campaigns and the transition into the Alliance Premier League.
The club ledger records 549 appearances—543 starts and six substitute appearances—and one goal. His longevity meant that several generations of Terras players operated in front of him, while his performances helped establish Weymouth among the leading non-league clubs of the 1960s and 1970s.
Clarke remained connected with the club after his playing career and is listed as trainer with the first-team group in the late 1980s. His contribution as both player and staff member was recognised in 2019 when he became an inaugural inductee into the Weymouth FC Hall of Fame.
