Willie Gibson

Biography

Willie Gibson was a durable defender whose Weymouth service covered a decade of Conference and Southern League football. The club ledger records his Terras span as 1987 to 1997, with 448 appearances, comprising 438 starts and ten substitute appearances, and six goals.

Gibson’s career bridged the club’s early years at the new Wessex Stadium and the demanding campaigns that followed. His reliability in defence made him a fixture through changing teams and managers, and placed him among the relatively small group to exceed 400 Weymouth appearances.

His sustained contribution was recognised in 2019 when he was selected as one of the inaugural inductees into the Weymouth FC Hall of Fame.
